2018 Inventory of Canadian Graduate Evaluation Education
University education in evaluation is an important support for professionalization of the field in Canada. Periodic inventories of American graduate courses and programs have been undertaken since the 1980s. The current study sought to develop a Canada-wide inventory of graduate courses and programs with emphasis on program evaluation offered by Canadian universities. Informal lists of Canadian university evaluation courses and intensive Internet searches of university websites were used to construct an initial sampling frame. Contacts in 105 university departments were requested to validate and provide input into the list of graduate evaluation courses. Comparisons of Canadian and American results are offered to gauge trends in graduate evaluation education. Canada has more multi-course graduate programs of study in evaluation and a more diverse range of disciplines offering evaluation education programs compared with those identified in the USA in 2008 (Lavelle & Donaldson, 2010).
